• The 2014 F80 M3 leaks early - High resolution pictures and ordering guide

Well, here it finally is the 2014 F80 M3. There is nothing surprising here styling wise as the car was already seen back in October undisguised on public roads. It is nice to have official photos that are higher resolution though without having to look at grainy spyphotos. As you likely already know, the car will feature a twin turbo inline-6 motor known as the S55 with 430 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque mated to either a manual or dual clutch transmission.

BMW is aiming the keep the weight in the 3306 pound range which hopefully they will pull off.

We will have to wait for further details such as pricing when BMW does an official press release but for now enjoy the photos below.

On the other hand.... This m3/m4 is a real great looking car
Definitely. I'm not a fan of the new BMW's rear. Side profile and front look nice, but so did the E9X and they had V8's (which I would want over the new I6, and I am sure you are loving Click here to enlarge). C6 looked great but I think the C7 hit it on the head with the design. C6 looked good but next to each other looks dated IMO.

I do love my v8, these new m's do sound muted...I have a feeling the tuning potential for these cars will be good though. Also, who knows, a aftermarket exhaust might wake them up

I was thinking the exact same thing while watching the video of the M4.

I never thought the day would come when a Vette would be more desirable than an M car. The exhaust note of the F8x cars is just too muted. Damn turbos.

The interior of the m cars crush the vette IMO

The Vette still is missing that slight bit of refinement and prestige.

That said, I think I would take the Vette too. If it had a DCT it would be no discussion.

I'll take the Sedan in Yas Marina Blue with DCT. Looks awesome!

I don't think so. I think prestige is in a solid V8 which the M4 is not. Refinement? It depends on if you have no power north of ~6k with the smoky/rattle prone pea shooter turbos BMW likes to use. I do agree DCT is an advantage for BMW but I would take a manual anyways so point moot.

        Agreed on DCT.

As for prestige, we all know that the M stamp is watered down now that it appears on SUVs and 4200 lb luxo-barges. The 'vette interior is coming ahead by leaps and bounds... probably not up to M standards yet, but certainly closing the gap by a significant margin.

Finally, price. Yet to be confirmed until BMW releases pricing, but the Stingray will likely undercut the M3/4 by $15-20k. If that's correct, then the ZO6/7 will be about in the same price bracket as the M3, and will no doubt destroy it in a straight line and around the track, DCT or no. And it's still port injected, so no carbon build-up, and takes so well to those cheap mods that the 'murican muscle cars love.

I wouldn't say crush. The new 3-series interior design always looked f*cked up to begin with. New M3 is just has nicer finishes with the same f*cked up design. I wish the M4 dash flowed one piece into the center console. 4er and M4 needs a different interior look than the 3er and M3.

        I drive a Chevy.

        I drive a BMW.

Prestige isn't in the cylinder count.

Yeah, that's one thing I would have concern about. I know it's not a huge deal to do the walnut blasting or whatnot, but that's still one trip to a dealer wasting time where I can instead be making money. I am hoping (like someone said above) that it's cleared up now that they have had some practice with the N54/55 and the other DI engines, but IDK, time will tell. A lot of low end grunt compared to the S65, that's for sure - but guessing most of that comes from boost. I wonder why they chose to stick with DI. Efficiency?

I would like to see what the oil separators look like on the S55. The best way to prevent that carbon buildup is to prevent the oil from getting on the backs of the intake valves in the first place.

Not sure if anyone has seen this yet, but here are the official specs on the M3/M4 (technical specs). The impressive thing is the 0-1000m time, which is very indicative of real world power/performance (as opposed to 0-60). The 0-1000m comes in at 22.2s with a 6-speed, and 21.9 with the DCT transmission. That's EXTREMELY fast - to compare, the GTS was quoted at 22.5s; a 996 Porsche Turbo ran this in 22.2s.

That's a very fast car, this is over 1s faster than the current gen M3 with DCT, which is already a quick car.
