• 2014 F83 M4 hard top convertible spotted completing winter testing - Debut by end of the year

      Here are some very nice spyphotos of the upcoming F83 M4 Convertible spotted completing its winter testing. Usually spyphotos come out a bit grains and low res but these show off the M4 Cabriolet nicely. The car has minimal camouflage which makes sense considering the F82 M4 already made its official debut. Yes, the car is a convertible hardtop so the question is how much weight will the folding roof and its motors add to the relatively light 3306 pound coupe?

      The curb weight will be the main difference between the F83 and F82 M4 variants with the same S55B30 engine and transmission options carrying over. Expect BMW to time a public reveal with a major auto show later this year as this car is basically ready to go.

        Certainly a better effort than the E93 in terms of how the canopy bastardizes the trunk and fender lines.

        Why BMW insists on hard tops for the 3 and 4 series is beyond me. 1ers and 6s get on just fine with soft tops that don’t plop crazy weight in the absolute worst place you could put it.

        i like the exclusivity of the hardtop to the (now) 4 series. it's not like anyone buys a convertible to get the maximum performance out of it for competitive purposes lol

        the E93 has been removed from bmwusa.com ..production has ended

        The 6er is already super heavy so that's why they do cloth.

        Agreed it flows way better than the E93.

        The motors, pumps, wiring and RHT hardware (Retractable Hard Top) added 440lbs to the E93 Cabriolet. If they use carbon fiber for the RHT hardware and cut the numbers motors and pumps, maybe the added weight is in the neighborhood of 250lbs.

        Of course with some fetteling with hardware and software, owners will just make them faster!

        If they could keep this in the 3500 pound range that would be incredible. Not sure if it will be possible though.

        if i had a beater i'd definitely consider a permanent convertible delete for the cab
