    • The strongest case for the naturally aspirated motor yet - 2018 Porsche 911 (991.2) GT3 reviews

There is still something to be said for the naturally aspirated performance motor. Yes, turbo engine have basically taken over but no matter how good they get they will not match the response of the naturally aspirated engine or that beautiful high rpm shriek as it pulls with ever increasing urgency to the lofty redline.

The new 4.0 liter 991.2 GT3 is the best iteration yet. It makes 493 horsepower which is the same as the 991.2 GT3 RS 4.0 except it revs higher to 9000 rpm. This is the same redline as the 991.2 GT3 3.8 motor.

It is simply a phenomenal powerplant. Porsche changed the crank, bearings, pistons, rings, added a new liner material, etc. They are pushing the design to the absolute limit.

Porsche also fixed their major mistake which was not offering a manual transmission option. The GT3 is not about acceleration or just numbers. It is about the driving experience. If a car like a GT3 does not deserve a manual, what car does?

The reviewers below fall in love with the car and how can you not? The sound, the handling, the response, the steering feel, etc., all combine to make the most glorious naturally aspirated 911 ever built.

As an owner of a turbocharged 911 I absolutely love the car but I lust after the GT3. It does not matter how good these turbo engines get the torque down low does not make me forget what it is like to rev out a naturally aspirated performance motor to redline and the satisfaction of hitting that perfect upshift. The turbo engine does not offer that as power and torque drop off well before redline. It just does not feel as exciting.

It also does not offer the same throttle response or sound. The GT3 just engrosses you in the experience all around. You are convinced you are in a race car for the road because that is basically what it is.

There is room for both on the market. Porsche should be commended for not just scrapping the naturally aspirated engine completely but giving buyers the choice. That is what a company that makes enthusiast vehicles centered around the driving experience is supposed to do.

I'd sell a couple body parts for one. There is literally nothing you need to do to this car maybe throw on an exhaust for some moar glorious sounds.

I want a GT3 now. I'll probably get over it once I upgrade my turbos.
