    • Porsche 991.2 9A2 3.0 X51 2017 on Carrera S powerkit retrofit only $7495

This is a bargain in the Porsche world. Based on the price in Euros we expected a US Dollar price point of just over $10k. At $7495 from Suncoast Porsche the X51 Power Kit is a huge bargain considering it is also backed by the Porsche warranty.

The X51 Powerkit bumps a Carrera S up to GTS spec. That means larger turbochargers and a stated output of 450 horsepower which is a bit conservative based on early dynographs.

The real trick here is for someone to figure out how to get the X51 kit working on base 991.2's. That will require aftermarket software to sort as a Porsche dealer will be prevented from doing it either with software roadblocks or simply by company policy.

Only for Carrera S/4S models with Sport Chrono Package (QR5). If you don't have Sport Exhaust, you MUST add it.

Genuine Porsche engine upgrade kit. Performance increase to 450 hp (331 kW). Includes two larger turbochargers, modified brake cooling (if vehicle is not equipped), optimized engine management, new engine compartment styling trim cover with Carbon inserts, and optional Sport Exhaust System (if not equipped).

So I've been thinking about this more and they say you need a Carrera S VIN for it. Well, I mean let's say I get someone's VIN I don't think the install will work as Porsche's system would likely stop it if the VIN doesn't match the ECU.

Thats what I was saying. Get an S VIN and order the kit. stock tune will work, but an aftermarket tune will knock it out. All that bs of "you have to have an S doesn't make any sense. There is zero difference.

I agree there is zero hardware difference but it's going to be a software roadblock. I don't see a dealer doing it.

Maybe it can be done with an aftermarket tune?

Right. I think if I had those bigger turbos installed right now with the stock tune, it would adapt and run like a champ. Why wouldn't it?

The GIAC tune on a 991.2 base carerra with the power kit would be a smooth as it would on an S or GTS. Why wouldn't it be?

You might run into boost cap issues or something. The larger turbos also will have a bit more lag I think but a tune should optimize them.

I don't know. I want to find out the answers though. You won't find them on Rennlist lol.

The only thing I can think of is that they can't flash the entire S or GTS file into the 991.2.

I think they can only modify certain parameters.

You know what? I'll get to the bottom of this.

Agreed, but aren't you thinking it's just a Porsche NA false directive? To keep S/GTS sales? I mean look at the embedded Porsche base...

Absolutely that is why they do it but despite that they likely have software procedures in place to prevent 991.2 base owners from circumventing their directive.

I don't think the dealer will help us in this we'll have to use third-party software.

Even so the GTS upgrade is mild. Hybrids will kill it for less money. It just would be nice to have it NOW.

Same here. I'm going to call about that GIAC tune Monday. I'll just throw that piggyback on if it doesn't get anywhere.

Yeah I would love a piggyback tune. The GIAC gains are huge and I've been debating it.... I know your car is a bit different but I'm not comfortable removing my ecu.

Well, I'll schedule time to get on the dyno with the VR piggyback I have.

It's killing me Terry won't develop a JB4 but I'm exploring the option of maybe developing my own piggyback.

One step a time. Let me go get a piggyback dyno and see if I can get those CBRD manifolds tested too.

        I don't believe it.

Where did you hear this? More details?

If that's the case, I'll order those turbos right now.

Wish Porsche sold just the Powerkit (GTS)turbos without all the other stuff. Wonder if there is a part number for just the turbos?

There is. I'll see if I can get it.

The software is going to be the problem. I want to work with GIAC on this but they are backed up and haven't read out a GTS yet.

Interesting.. A part number would be great if you could get it! I wonder what just the two turbos would cost without all the other stuff in the kit? Also curious how the car would behave if I kept the same GIAC tune? I emailed Seth asking if the car would need to be re-tuned but haven't heard anything back yet.
