    • 0-356 kph (221 mph) launch control top speed sprint with the new 2018 911 (991.2) GT2 RS

      The new 991.2 generation GT2 RS is the baddest Porsche 911 ever produced. With 700 horsepower from its twin turbo 3.8 liter powerplant it accelerates very, very quickly. That is despite its tremendous aerodynamic drag from the downforce generated which helps it set Nurburgring lap records.


      Sport Auto took the car out on the autobahn to do a launch control initiated top speed run. They hit an indicated 356 kph which is 221 mph. Their GPS system though shows 342 kph which is 212.5 miles per hour.

      Interestingly, Porsche says the GT2 RS top speed is 211 miles per hour and that appears to be spot on based on this video and the GPS testing. The Porsche speedometer reads high just like most cars.

      It will be interesting to see what the GT2 RS puts down on the dyno. 650 wheel horsepower on a Dynojet is our guess.

        I'm sure we'll eventually see it but the 720S will win.

        If they built a standard GT2 without all the aero things would be closer I'd bet.

        Impressive - but I find it weird there’s zero cabin/camera shake in that video. They seem to be riding on glass. At 300+ km/hour there’s bound to be some movement.

        Am I missing something?

        Well, it is a Porsche, and from my understanding - the unrestricted parts of the Autobahn aren't at all like the roads in America (i.e. Chicago in winter)...

        There is a bit of camera shake, and although minimal - am sure they also used optical and/or digital image stabilization.

        Then again, it is a Porsche - and they are engineered with driving like this in mind. It has a ton of down-force, and is literally glued to the road at speed. I don't think people would be too happy if their GT2 RS had tons of NVH at idle or at 210 MPH Click here to enlarge

        When the car moves everything moves with it. The only reason you'd see shake is if the camera mount and cluster moved independently.

        I agree , it might be close, gt2 gets to 60mph quicker I think, 720s should pull on the top end

        GT2 RS 0-186 mph in 22.1

        720S 0-186mph in 21.8

        lol, they should have Ferrari supply the fuel to Mclaren, gt2 would then win 4sure

        During testing the GT2 RS prototypes, Porsche said they saw a Vmax of 370 km/h on the speedo of one of the cars, without any limiters.
