    Issues with TPC Racing turbo kit on 987 direct injected Porsche Caymans? Owner claims major issues with TPC Turbo Kit

    The last time PorscheBoost had an article about TPC was a story regarding their 3.7 liter low compression built motor Cayman turbo setup. This was on a Cayman without the direct injected motor that came in 2009. We suspect the fuel system in the direct injected cars along with the PDK transmission is giving TPC some trouble and it has led one owner of a PDK 2012 Cayman R to put his car up for sale.

    i have reciepts for $40k in upgrades.. i put in the sport buckets myself...
    just like alex and a few others.. my car has issues.. can they be fixed.. probably yes.. but im over it.. and im not putting any more money into it..
    im going after a cts v or an m5.. for a daily driver.. i need the trunk space and this car is and odd man out in my series of vehicles...

    tpc upgrades are the turbo and stage 3 suspension..
    if you are in the market for a project like this.. have done all your due diligence and research think about...
    im not gonna give this car away... im in no hurry to dump it..
    is what it is.. remember, i have an RS as a back up..

    im really pi s s ed off about the whole situation...

    boy, do i wish i could go back in time..
    i really wish i would of had more information..


    Apparently he is not the only one having trouble and he says TPC refuses to help him. What exactly are these problems? Porscheboost will look into this issue and attempt to find out more. TPC has made a small statement on the matter:

    Dealers are known to be idiots. Most guys can't think outside of the 'stock' box.

    Car needs to go back to TPC to get the full story.

    Pcar owners can be very snooty too. He says he wants to dump the car cuse he's pissed at it, but 'not in a rush to sell'. Sounds like someone has impatient panties in a wad.

    I've read about these issues on other forums, and it does indeed seem to be reported with the DFI cars. Knowing how tricky it has been to get more fuel into the N54, I wonder if this is a fueling issue. Running only 4-5 lbs of boost, you would think the stock setup has enough overhead, but perhaps not.

    go figure... the turbo they put on.. seized up..
    at some point in time.. im probably gonna rip the turbo out and put the car back to stock after i stomach this whole painful processs....


    at this point in time.. if this turbo fails.. and i put in an aftermarket turbo... i will have replaced almost everything tpc did.. at this point ... almost everything has been replaced...


    who knows.. i feel like a complete idiot for doing this project.. and im paying for it...

    The turbo failing doesn't mean the tuning is necessarily bad or the fuel. Sounds like they need to use a different turbo, it's not as bad as he made it sound.

    Pity. This is the only real "911 RS killer" packaged tune I have come across so far for the Cayman. But it highlights how important it is to choose the right kind of company with the right knowledge of what they are doing for this kind of thing.

    Sure wish AMS Performance would do an "Alpha 12" for the Cayman.. Or even more so, Ruf to make a packaged upgrade for it..

    TPC does some serious racing I wouldn't discount them based on this necessarily. We need more info.

    if the turbo went bad, then its just the damn turbo.. my money is on an impatient owner that can believe something would ever break and need replacing. same mentality on m3post, just a larger budget..

    There are at least 3 guys on P-9 that have had issues with their kits. We don't know how many total kits were installed, so it's hard to get a feel for failure rate. I think it's quite possible that they had a bad batch of turbos, which was then compounded by the owner taking the car to a dealer for service. Who knows what might have been made worse by that action alone.

    You raise good points. I would like to get to the bottom of this.

    If it's just a bad turbo I think the owner is being a bit melodramatic.

    This isnt the first I'm hearing bad thing about tpc

    At the old shop I used to "work" at, an older lady brought in her 2000 porsche boxter to get a turbo kit installed by TPC racing. We ordered the kit for her and when the time came we installed it. Installation took about a week and a half because half of the kit didn't fit correctly! My fabricator had to basically redo almost the whole setup to get everything to fit correctly.

    I know the owner of the above cayman had his turbo fail on him. But I've actually seen first hand how badly this kit fit on this lady's boxter.

    Interesting, This was one of their early kits I take it?

    Still doesn't excuse the fitment.
