    • Formula 1 reveals 2021 F1 Car design concepts designed to make racing more comptitive

Watch Formula 1? You are not alone as it is the world's most popular motorsport. It is not the most popular motorsport in the United States though and there are various reasons for that but the quality of racing is often times quite boring.

Why? Overtaking is tough. Especially on certain courses such as Monaco where whomever is sitting in the pole position is basically guaranteed a win.

Not to mention only the first six cars or so truly have a chance at a win. It was even worse the past couple years with Mercedes dominating to a degree you knew the outcome well in advance.

Formula 1 sees this as a problem and Ross Brawn (formerly of AMG) is tasked with creating cars for 2021 that will be more competitive.

It is like a force field. You can't get near it, because as soon as you do you lose performance and fall back, and you see people dropping back and the loss of performance degrades the tyres more than it should do.

We can't eliminate that completely but we can reduce it, so the time differential for one car to attack another can be much less.

With the current cars, when they get to within two to three car lengths, they can lose 50% of performance, the tyres degrade more and it becomes very challenging. At the moment we have (new) designs that only lose 20% - maintain 80%.
Those aerodynamic changes sound good but BoostAddict believes drivers should get a turbo overboost button to allow them really make use of having turbocharged powerplants. Overtaking would become far easier and happen far more often. Plus even the little guys with small budgets would be able to use it.

Hopefully the new cars make the racing more exciting and more competitive. We can all agree the large performance disparity from the top teams to bottom teams does not make the racing any more exciting.

Use a computer algorithm in real time to balance the performance of the vehicles.

Make the driver's skill shine rather than the sandbagging of the huge money teams.

I'd also love to see a driver/car switch for demonstration purposes.

It is a very interesting suggestion but how do you make the engineering shine?

If you don't get the sport, go watch something else.

And Ross Brawn has been a lot in Formula1, but never from AMG.

Um he was Mercedes-AMG team principle. What are you talking about?

Secondly the sport could stand to be improved. F1 agrees or why new cars to make racing closer?

Your attitude toward F1 criticism is bizarre.

When Ross Brawn was involved at Mercedes, AMG wasn't. But you wouldn't know that.
It is just that I think your idea of 'improving takovers' is ridiculous.
F1 will never be like Indycar.
The manufacturers would not allow it.

Sounds like someone needs some education:

It doesn't need to be like Indycar. It clearly has problems though and ideas are great to put out there.

        It's broken as it is.

Not sure what to tell you about your sources.
The team was calles Mercedes Petronas at the time.
AMG was brought in much later, for marketing purposes.

        Mercedes Benz is the source...

        https://www.mercedes-benz.com/en/mer...nt-transition/

The MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team announced that Ross Brawn will step down from his position as Team Principal at the end of 2013.

For 2012, the team removed the GP from their name and added the name of AMG, the high performance brand of Daimler AG, to their title. The team will be known as Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team.

Exactly. Hence why I said formerly of AMG.

All I hear is wah wah wah you americans don't know anything and shouldn't watch F1 if you don't love every aspect of the formula RIGHT NOW.

Things should never progress or change? Please get over your European bias that we are all a bunch of Nascar loving hicks.
