    • Audi B9 RS4 Avant vs. Porsche 991.2 GTS drag and roll races

On paper this might sound like a mismatch but there was actually a time where an RS4 Avant could put the fear of god into any Porsche 911 Carrera in the lineup including the GTS. That was all the way back with the Audi B5 generation RS4 and things have certainly changed quite a bit since then.

At one point the RS4 lost its turbos for a naturally aspirated V8 and in modern times the 911 Carrera GTS went on to lose its naturally aspirated flat-6 for a turbocharged variant.

Fortunately the RS4 now regains its turbo V6 powerplant but is it the terror it once was? No. Ironically, Porsche and Audi share the powerplant in certain models (such as the Panamera 4S).

The RS4 simply has grown heavier and softer over the years with far less emphasis on outright performance. It grew up but it lost something in the maturing process. The lack of a manual option with a mandatory automatic tells you that.

The GTS gets a poor start likely to make things more exciting for the video but it still wins the drag race against the all wheel drive RS4. A rear wheel drive GTS launches very well so this is a bit odd to see.

They do a roll race that predictably shows the GTS waxes the RS4. Carwow yet again idiotically does not put the cars in the right gear putting the RS4 at a disadvantage to begin with. Not even close.

I Like a lot of their vids, but it is frustrating they never do the roll races in the proper modes. All it does is show the comfort mode software at work, not how fast the box can kick down or how fast the cars are in reality.

This race goes as expected, the RS4 is a great car, but not going to beat a 911 gts, it must be added though, the 911 gts is almost twice as much money, that's a pretty big difference.

        Exactly. I don't understand it.

I bet the Carrera 4 GTS will destroy the RS4 from the launch. I love the Avant but they never offer it here in the US except the slow and overpriced Allroad.

No doubt. Honestly, even the GTS should be right there with how well these launch.

The start was BS. PDK launching at 6500 rpm is like getting shot out of a cannon.

I'd hate to sound like a fanboy just because I own a GTS but that GTS had a terrible launch. The 911 should have busted open a lead right off the line but it spun a good amount instead. My GTS was pulling a 1.7 60ft bone stock, doubt the RS4 can top that.

The reason they do roll races in D and in Comfort mode is because they're trying to simulate an everyday highway encounter. Still dont like that test at all.

What you sound like is someone who knows what they are talking about. These Carwow people suck at what they do they just happen to have an aistrip and access to cars.

When I see something to play with I'm in the right gear.
