    • TTE Germany claims to have a 1000+ horsepower 991 Turbo VTG turbo upgrade

      This is a bold claim to make with literally zero proof to accompany it. That is why PorscheBoost is calling the claim out because no VTG (Variable Turbine Geometry) turbo upgrade produces over 1000 horsepower. The closest example would be the Tial VTG upgrade PorscheBoost member @Markblackwell is running.


      There are only a handful of companies in the world that can produce a VTG turbocharger and the aftermarket is pretty much limited to modifying the factory housing.

      These TTE VTG turbos could potentially be used in 1000+ whp builds while retaining the VTG technology as going beyond 800+ awhp requires ditching the VTG's.

      So how is TTE potentially doing this? They probably got their hands on some 991.2 GT2 RS VTG housings. Basing this upgrade on the GT2 RS turbochargers would likely allow for the strongest VTG aftermarket upgrade to date. ESMotor is probably trying to do the same thing and also GAD Motors as well.

      So the question is, who is running them and making 1000+ horsepower?

        Numbers on compressor castings do not resemble the numbers on the ES GT2RS castings. Quick google search of TTE casting comes back with 991 Turbo S 3.8

        The turbine housing is a bolted flange type found on the stock turbo/s. .
        The compressor cover looks OE as well like your search pointed out, and has a larger inlet pressed in.

        So how is TTE potentially doing this? They probably got their hands on some 991.2 GT2 RS VTG housings.         The OE GT2RS turbine housing has a V-Band discharge, and is much different than pictured.


        The turbine wheel is a modified standard Mitsubishi design, copied with the hub root gutted, like so: https://www.ebay.com/i/263268772640?chn=ps.

        The compressor wheel looks like a swarfed / flank milled design ( also ebay / KTS ).

        The interesting part is that the standard VTG Vane cartridge don't easily allow for modification, and un trimmed, or restricted in travel the VTG blades will interfere with a larger turbine wheel. The difficult part is using the right materials if your re-making any of the moving surfaces.

        They just put up a tte580 w/ VTG for the 718 on their Instagram. Maybe they figured it out? Really looking forward to the results from that one.

        Well,
        they are a little pricey, If they are the standard Borg Warner housings then this is no break through as the Turbine is what needs to be increased.

        I’ve seen plenty of hybrids in my day that look good on paper and cannot be calibrated to the power levels the simulation expected.

        I would not necessarily say that. Turbos are typically marketed based upon their potential. For example...Garrett GTX2860R Gen II Horsepower 200-475 displacement 1.4L - 2.5L

        We know that the engine is 3.8L so if the flow is there it “should” make XXXX HP. It takes much more than two turbos. They do mention inlets required.
