• Sport Auto gets an impressive 7 minute 23.7 second Nurburgring time out of the 2017 Porsche 911 GTS

The 991.2 GTS is a baby 911 Turbo. Except you can also spec it in rear or all wheel drive variants and choose a manual or dual clutch transmission option. There is a lot to like about the GTS and the performance you get for the dollar is hard to argue against in the context of the 991.2 lineup.

It also offers performance that is uncomfortably close to the Turbo for the money. Look at what Sport Auto was able to do with it on the 'Ring. They ran a 7:23.77 laptime.

Look at these Sport Auto times:

      Mercedes-AMG GT R - 7:10.92
      Ferrari 488 GTB - 7:21.63
      Porsche 991.1 GT3RS - 7:28
      Porsche 991.1 GT3 - 7:32
      Porsche 991.2 911 CS - 7:34
      BMW M4 GTS - 7:37

One way to look at it is that it is quicker than a 991.1 GT3 RS. Another way to look at it is that it is just a couple seconds off a Ferrari 488 GTB.

You might be saying to yourself that it is pretty far behind the 991.2 GT3 with its 7:12.17 laptime but that was in the hands of Porsche and not an independent test like we see here from Sport Auto.

The bottom line is the GTS offers incredible value in the 911 lineup. With a tune only on this GTS it would likely be very close if not quicker around the Nurburgring than the GT3.

      Well done Porsche.
