• Porsche makes amends by giving 991.1 GT3 owners 10 year 120k mile warranty

Why is Porsche being so generous? Well, because of the whole 991.1 GT3 engine fiasco. As a quick recap, some early 991.1 3.8 liter GT3 models went up in flames. Why? An issue regarding the connecting rod bolt which led to Porsche replacing all 991.1 GT3 engines.

Basically, Porsche recalled all 991.1 GT3's and replaced the engines. Now, not only did Porsche replace the engines but they are offering an extended 10 year or 120k mile warranty. This warranty is transferable.

Why do this? To make up for the initial mistake and protect GT3 buyers from severe depreciation. The 991.1 GT3 still will have detractors but Porsche did all they could in their power to resolve the issue. There will be those GT3 owners who will never be satisfied.

The 991.1 GT3 RS and the 911R remain unaffected.

(The base bumper-to-bumper warranty remains unchanged at 4 years or 50,000 miles for the US, as do all other warranty terms and conditions.) The warranty extension is fully transferable to any future owner. All US owners will be informed in writing and the change will be applied and processed with no additional owner action required. If a vehicle shows the described failure patterns (e.g., misfire at high revs and check engine light) and the inspection in the workshop shows the failure patterns, Porsche will replace the defective engine with a new engine having the latest parts. Porsche confirms that the issue is isolated to the 991.1 GT3, and that the 991.1 GT3 RS and the 991 R are not affected.

If I'm understanding correctly, shouldn't the title be *991.1 GT3s?

That's great news! It might be the result of the work from few enthusiasts who recently had group meeting with Porsche bosses to address their concerns on GT3 failure. This is very rare IMO, the arranged meeting, and am glad to hear it.

That is awesome. Crazy that they would offer such a long warranty on such a high strung high revving engine that they know people will beat on on the track.

As if the GT3 needed another reason to hold its value....
