    • Porsche 918 Spyder vs. McLaren 720S 1/2 mile run (plus Model S P100D vs. 918)

Despite completely different price points and completely different designs the McLaren 720S and Porsche 918 Spyder offer similar performance. The McLaren is RWD with a twin turbo 4.0 V8 whereas the 918 Spyder is all wheel drive with a 4.6 liter V8 and two electric motors.

The 918 Spyder also weighs about 700 pounds more which is not insignificant but that takes away some of the power advantage it has with 887 combined horses.

You'll want to skip ahead to the 5:05 mark in the video to see the first run.

The McLaren gets a better launch somehow but sounds like it hits the limiter. The 918 crushes it.

They line up again and the 720S tries launch control but visibly spins. The 918 again takes it easily.

They try the Tesla P100D against the 918 Spyder next. A mismatch clearly but they do it anyway. The Tesla gets a good launch and is able to hold off the 918 for what seems like two seconds before the 918 takes off en route to a 170 mph trap speed. The Tesla manages 139 which is simply not a strong 1/2 mile trap.

If you look at the slips for the 918 and the McLaren 720S the 918 has the higher numbers but just barely. From a roll, the 720S would likely have the edge:

      Incredible performance.

my bone stock 2016 A8 with optonal Zl1 front brakes did 137-138 miles an hour all day long at shift sector 15 runs within 1.5mph of each other and out the door cost me 46k, and is a hell of a Laguna Seca machine. When I installed the P-1 procharger with stage 2 intercooler and headers it ran 149mph and just did red list at 11.21 all for the total of an extra $9,100 bucks. So this Tesla sucks ass for 160k.

That 720s is a beast, cant wait until the GT2RS comes out for comparo

The GT2RS is going to be slower. I doubt it will be a 14X trap car.

Actually for round 2 Ive got a new cam, Lt4 injectors and pump, flex fuel kit, gonna run E85 and more boost so it should be in the mid 750whp, a few months ago I installed Dss axels and drive shaft. We will see what it runs at March red list and then the 1/2 mile. Then I will upgrade to a big Procharger and go for 1,000whp, carillo rods and pistons are going in for round 2 as well so it will be ready for big powah.

Actually my wife has the C7 which I am currently trying to convince her she really needs to trade it in on a ZR1Click here to enlarge
