    • The strongest turbo Mezger? Turbocharged and built 4.0 liter Porsche 997.1 GT3 hits 1539 to the wheels

Finding the strongest Mezger flat-6 ever built is tough. There are several people vying for the title. A 996 Turbo with a bit of nitrous hit 1560 to the wheels back in 2014. Protomotive built a 996 GT2 that managed 1564 to the tires boost only but on a Dynapack hub dyno.

This example from Blackhorseturbo Racing managed 1539 horsepower at the wheels on the DriverSource Houston Dynojet:

What are the specs? Not much is shared beyond ethanol tuning on a Syvecs ECU and a 4.0 liter GT3 engine build. The GT3 heads and redline are no doubt helping.

Is it the most powerful? Is it making more power now? Who knows. It certainly is among the strongest examples ever built.

Mezger FTW! I know a guy who works for PCNA at the HQ here in atl who is a big douche and thinks he knows everything about Porshe and he was trying to tell me the Mezger sucks compared to the new 9A motors. I just had to stop talking to him.

The company line is that the new stuff is better so they brainwashed him or whatever.

They raced the Mezger for decades. End of debate.

The new engine in the 991.2 GT3 probably will end up being better, but hardly night & day...the big thing is that the new engine revs higher and probably breathes better. And the new version is a lot stronger and racier inside than the old version, sounds like it's practically a race engine that's been barely tamed for the street. I wouldn't hesitate for a second to call it anything but brilliant. Of course, the Mezger is also brilliant, and anyone who disagrees doesn't know what they're talking about.

How is it stronger and racier than the old version? They never raced it.

They do race it now, the engine in the 991.2 GT3/RS is essentially the race engine with a few tweaks.

Frankly I've heard from some that know more than I do that it's even more racy than the Mezger was, in street form. They reacted hard to the original GT3 engine problems and went hard towards making something that could be beaten to death on the track and still come back for more.

Pretty sure. All the current race cars now use this engine. Hasn't been for long but I think 2 years now.

This thing even has solid lifters, Mezger didn't even have that. Somewhere on Rennlist someone went through all the incredible high-end features this engine has, it was a random forum post so I have no idea where it is now, but it seems like a very impressive engine. It might not have the raw brute strength for massive amounts of boost, but no one has really tried yet either...it might...they've improved it a lot from the first GT3. Really from what I can tell it's barely even the same engine at all.

Does the 991 GT3 have a true dry sump like the Mezger?
